Statement Sunday at Gibson Woods Monmouth Daily Review Atlas
MONMOUTH — Right after winning the Monmouth All-City Golf Tournament, Joe Hoskins admitted that putting is usually not the “strong part” of his game.
But it sure was on Sunday at Gibson Woods.
“He just doesn’t miss,” said one fan.
Hoskins trailed Scott Weber by one stroke going into the final day. However, Hoskins drained a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 3 to jumpstart his best-ever round ever of 65 on Sunday at Gibson Woods.
“It was definitely one of those putts that was a real confidence builder for your game,” said the 22-year-old Hoskins. “Once you get to putting well, you get in a groove and you understand the touch and the feel of your putter. You have to have those confidence builders in your game.”
Gibson Woods Golf Pro Randy Briggs said that "without a doubt" the 66-65—131 score of Hoskins was a city tournament record. In fact, Ben Gillen’s second place score of 68-67—135 would often win the city tournament.
