Stabenow tours Cascade Township company that makes clean-room systems MLive.com
CASCADE TOWNSHIP — Maid service? That’s a common question for Clean Rooms International .
Though the local manufacturer does keep places spic-and-span, its work is more complex than mop and broom. The company has made a name for itself designing and building clean-room systems — walls, floors, ceilings, air-handling equipment — for specialized customers in medical, aerospace and electronics industries.
“Basically, we’re trying to protect product from people,” said Timothy Werkema, president and chief executive officer. “The goal is to create as particle-free of an environment as you possibly can.
“What we do is not rocket science, but we work with rocket scientists.”
Clean Rooms on Monday hosted U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan, to showcase its new Cascade Township facility purchased with help from the U.S. Small Business Administration . The federal agency’s administrator, Karen Mills, planned to join Stabenow, but was replaced by a regional official because of travel problems caused by Hurricane Irene.
